In light of current events, effective Wednesday, March 18th, the TOWN OF WHEATLAND OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. There will be NO direct contact with the public during this time of public health uncertainty.

Town Clerk’s Office. The Town Clerk’s Office staff will be working 8:00AM -12:00PM Monday through Thursday, 6:00PM – 8:00PM Monday and closed completely on Friday. The Town Clerk’s Office staff will be in the office during these times in order to respond to phone calls and emails, with the ability to access vital records, but will not be working with the public in a one on one basis. Staff will also have the capability to respond to phone calls and emails from their homes from 12:30PM – 4:00PM Monday through Thursday. Please email or call the Town Clerk’s Office if you think that an appointment is necessary to take care of your needs so this possibility can be discussed. The decision to permit access will be made on an individual basis. Tax payments can be mailed in to the Town and appropriate stamped receipts will be returned. Other Town Departments located in the Wheatland Municipal Building. The new working arrangement described above also applies to the Town Building Department and all other departments centralized at the 22 Main Street location, in accordance with department specific published work hours (available under the individual Department descriptions on the Town Website). Note that the Town Court Offices have been closed by the State.

Town Highway Department. THE TOWN OF WHEATLAND HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT IS EFFECTIVELY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. All residents and vendors are requested to NOT show up at the Highway Garage without a scheduled appointment. At the current time, the Highway Department will generally continue with their normal work as scheduled. The Highway department is managing staff safety by implementing measures of social distancing. The Highway Department telephone number to discuss a concern or make an appointment is (585) 538-6535.

Plans pertaining to the April Town Board Meetings will be communicated as soon as the plan is established.

Pursuant to an Order by Chief Administrative Judge, New York State Unified Court System,  Lawrence K. Marks, Wheatland Town Court will not be in session until further notice. The court will be sending rescheduling notices for any pending matters currently before the court.

ALL Wheatland Recreation activities and programs are suspended until further notice. It is in the best interest of our community to socially distance and avoid large gatherings. The Recreation Coordinator will be in contact with all registered participants and instructors to discuss their specific program. Duties include operation and maintenance of lawn mowing and snow plowing equipment, flagging and the performance of manual labor tasks associated with the highway department. Experience preferred. Must have valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

TAKE NOTICE, That I, the undersigned Collector of Taxes for the Town of Wheatland, Monroe County, New York, have duly received the tax rolls and warrant for the present fiscal year, and that I will collect taxes at the Wheatland Municipal Building, 22 Main Street, Scottsville, New York, from January 2, 2020 through February 10, 2020.  The hours are:  Monday 8:00-4:00 P.M. & 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., Tuesday-Thursday 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. and Friday 8:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that the taxes may be paid on or before February 10, 2020, without charge or interest. On all such taxes remaining unpaid after February 10, 2020, an interest charge will be assessed as follows: balance as of February – 1.5%, March – 3 %, April – 4.5%, May – 6%; with installment payments meeting the requirements outlined on the tax bill; and until the return of unpaid taxes is made by the Collector to the County Treasurer pursuant to law on June 1, 2020. Taxpayers paying by mail should consider their cancelled check as their receipt. Receipts will be issued for payment only when specifically requested, and if the entire bill is sent with payment.
Any taxpayer who should have received a tax bill, and has not by January 11th, is requested to contact the Town Office at 889-1553, ext. 102.

Town of Wheatland and Village of Scottsville residents may recycle Christmas trees by taking them to the Town Highway Garage, 1822 Scottsville-Mumford Road until January 31, 2020. (Village of Scottsville residents will have curbside pick-up of trees as usual, if desired, through the month of January).

NOTICE OF ELECTION AND REGISTRATION: MUMFORD FIRE DISTRICT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Election of the Mumford Fire District will take place on December 10, 2019 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Mumford Community Building located in Mumford, New York, for the purpose of electing two Commissioners: 1 for a five (5) year term and, 1 for a two (2) year term; commencing on January 1, 2020 and ending on December 31, 2024 and commencing on January 1, 2020 and ending on December 31, 2021. All voters registered with the Monroe County Board of Elections on or before November 18, 2019 shall be eligible to vote. Every elector of the Town of Wheatland who shall have resided in the Mumford Fire District for a period of 30 days next preceding the December 10th election shall be qualified to vote. [Town Law 175-a(2)(a)]

Candidates for the Fire Commissioner office should circulate a petition to obtain 25 signatures and file such petition with the clerk named below no later than November 20, 2019.
